The Renault Type E was the fifth passenger car model of Renault , designed by Louis Renault .

description

This model had no predecessor. It received its approval from the national licensing authority on May 28, 1901. The basis of this sporty vehicle, the Renault Type D . Production ended in the same year. The sales success remained low. The Renault Type I can be seen as the successor.

A single-cylinder engine from De Dion-Bouton with 110 mm bore and 130 mm stroke developed 9 hp from a displacement of 1235 cm³ . A source deviates from 100 to 110 mm bore, 110 to 130 mm stroke, but uniformly 1234 cm³ displacement and engine outputs of 7.5 HP and 9 HP. The side-mounted water cooler had nine cooling elements. The engine power was sent to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The maximum speed was given as 45 km / h to 50 km / h.

In 1901, Louis Renault won the Voiturette class with one of these models at the car race from Paris to Bordeaux ahead of his brother Marcel Renault and the racing drivers Oury and Grus, also in a Renault Type E. In the race from Paris to Berlin in the same year, Louis Renault reached Grus , Merville and Lamy place 1, 2, 4 and 5 in the Voiturette class. Louis Renault finished seventh overall.
