The vehicle range consisted of a flatbed truck , a chassis for superstructures, a tipper and a box truck with a load volume of 9 m³. The maximum total weight was 3.3 tons or 3.5 tons. In contrast to its predecessor, it had a one-piece, large, curved windscreen, a dashboard similar to a car and a gearshift lever positioned on the vehicle floor. The model had coil springs at the front and leaf springs with telescopic shock absorbers at the rear. Thus, in contrast to its predecessor, the suspension was variable and therefore more comfortable, and there was also more ground clearance. The standard engine was a 2.1 l petrol engine (type 671) with 65 hp (48 kW) and a 4-speed manual transmission. Upon request, there was also a 2.6-liter gasoline engine (type 817) with 75 hp (55 kW) and a 5-speed manual transmission as well as a 2.7 L diesel engine (type 580) with 70 hp (51 kW) and Five-speed manual transmission. The model was built by Saviem , the Renault commercial vehicle company in Blainville-sur-Orne . The truck Renault Super Galion SG4 / Saviem SG4 / SG5 based on the Renault Super Goélette SG2.
As early as autumn 1966, the windshield was extended downwards and the dashboard was slightly modified. In 1967 there were now rectangular instead of round headlights and two new versions appeared: On the one hand, there was now optional all-wheel drive and the SB2 version . This was designed with a lowered loading area and a rigid rear axle with leaf springs especially for inner-city delivery traffic. In 1969 there was the Saviem-Alfa Romeo Type 599 3.3 L diesel engine with direct injection with 75 hp (55 kW). This engine was a license replica from MAN . From now on the model series was in Italy as Alfa Romeo Saviem A15 . available.
Saviem SG2 / SB2 / SG3 / TP3 1970-1980
In 1970 the Renault Super Goélette SG2 became the Saviem SG2 and SB2. The new type Saviem TP3 was a box van with all-wheel drive and derived from the all-wheel models sold to the French army. From 1971 a 3-speed automatic transmission was available for the larger engines. In January 1974 the SG3 appeared with double rear wheels and a rear axle with rigid leaf springs. Since Renault had taken over Berliet in 1975 , this brand was merged with Saviem and in 1978 to Renault Véhicules Industriels . In 1979 the models got a wider grille made of black plastic with a large Renault rhombus trademark and Saviem lettering.
Renault SG2 / SB2 / SG3 1980–1982
In mid-1980 with the appearance of the new Renault Master and Renault Trafic , the Saviem logo completely disappeared from the models. The models replaced from 1982 the Renault Messenger . Since the models were very popular in Africa, they were exported there for a few years.
