The Renault Colorale (factory name: 4CV ) was a mid-range vehicle or large-capacity station wagon with up to six seats, which was built by the automobile manufacturer Renault from 1950 to 1957 . From 1951 the vehicle was also available with all-wheel drive and was built 43,000 times.

history

After the Second World War, the 4CV was the car for the people, it was supposed to get post-war France "rolling" again. The Juvaquatre (later Dauphinoise) was mainly used as a "300 kg" station wagon, the car for craft and trade. Renault was therefore very well positioned. But what was missing was a "workhorse". Renault launched the Colorale model. The name is a portmanteau composed of the words Colo niale and Ru rale , and should already suggest the application in the name.

The Colorale was Renault's first post-war development to go into series production (4CV and Juvaquatre were war or pre-war developments) and appealed to a very specific clientele: the construction industry, municipalities, and farmers and foresters. The 4CV was the vehicle that made the French "mobile" again, the Juvaquatre, especially as a "300kg" station wagon, was the car for craft and trade. The Colorale should be used for tough everyday use. There were different versions; it was produced as a tow truck and station wagon, as well as the "Savanne" model without side windows, but with roller blinds.

The engine came from the predecessor Primaquatre and was a pre-war development. It was a four-cylinder side valve with a displacement of 2.4 liters and 46 kW / 62 PS. Top speed 100 km / h.
