The Mégane II is the second generation of the Mégane compact class car from the French car manufacturer Renault .

Model history

The second edition of the Mégane was offered from October 2002. Initially, the three- and five-door hatchback sedans were available. In September 2003 both the notchback and the station wagon Grand Tour followed . It was produced in plants in France (Mégane CC in Douai , Mégane Sport in Dieppe ), Spain (three and five-door, as well as Grand Tour in Palencia ) and in Turkey (Mégane Notchback in Bursa ).

The trunk has a volume of between 330 (hatchback) and 520 liters ( Grand Tour ) , depending on the model variant .

With the Mégane, Renault continued its development in vehicle safety - especially in occupant protection - and also achieved five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test with this model .

Facelift

In January 2006 the series received a facelift. The visual innovations were limited to a slightly changed front section and redesigned rear lights.

A Renault Mégane Sport ( RS ) with the new 2.0 dCi engine with 127 kW (173 hp) already known from Laguna, Espace and Vel Satis was presented at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. So there is now a sporty diesel in addition to the petrol engine with 165 or 169 kW.

At the end of November 2008 the hatchback version was renewed. The Coupé came in January 2009 and the Grand Tour followed in June 2009. The Coupé-Cabriolet has been at dealerships since June 2010. The notchback sedan has been replaced by the independently positioned Fluence model since August 2010 .

Equipment variants

There were four basic equipment options to choose from for the sedan and the station wagon. The special models offered technical refinements and innovations such as the keyless entry system Keycard Handsfree and a different combination of colors, fabrics and materials. The following equipment could be selected:

  • Authentique
  • Avantage (special model based on the Authentique)
  • Exception (special model based on the Dynamique)
  • emotion
  • Expression (outside of Germany)
  • Dynamique
  • Privilège (includes all option packages)

In addition, you could choose three option packages, after which the equipment and materials were increased again. "Luxe" corresponds to the highest quality equipment. The following three packages could be selected:

  • Fairway
  • Confort
  • Luxe

The Mégane CC (stands for Coupé - Cabriolet ) was available from dealers from September 2003. It is based on the Mégane II and has a two-part glass folding roof as a special feature . There are practically nothing in common with the convertible of the previous model.

The folding roof can be lowered electro-hydraulically in the trunk at the push of a button . The trunk volume is 490 liters with the roof closed and 190 liters with the roof lowered. The time to open or close is 22 seconds.

In contrast to the Peugeot 307 CC , which has a similar roof section built by Magna Car Top Systems , the Renault roof made by Karmann consists of glass as well as the rear window. It can be darkened with an integrated sun blind.

The vehicle has four seats.

In addition to standard ABS, ESP, six airbags, seat belt tensioners and belt force limiters, the safety equipment also includes Isofix child seat attachments on all seats except the driver's seat and, optionally, the rear head restraints that automatically extend in the event of a rollover as active rollover protection . The vehicle received five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test, which is the highest rating.

Renault Mégane CC (2006-2010)

In January 2006, the Mégane CC was also revised. Externally, the vehicles from phase 1 and phase 2 can mainly be distinguished by the slightly modified front section and additional lettering on the rear.
