The Renault Type BY was an early passenger car model from Renault . It was also called 20 CV .

description

The national licensing authority granted its approval on December 29, 1909. The predecessor was the Renault Type AS and the successor to the Renault Type CE .

A water-cooled four - cylinder engine with a 100 mm bore and 140 mm stroke produced 20 to 22 hp from a displacement of 4398 cm³ . The engine power was sent to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The maximum speed was specified as 55 km / h to 89 km / h, depending on the gear ratio.

There was a choice of two or three different sized chassis . The smallest had a wheelbase of 308 cm, which resulted in a vehicle length of 420 cm and a vehicle width of 155 cm. With a 308 cm wheelbase and 140 cm track width, the medium-sized one enabled bodies of 435 cm or 436.5 cm in length and 168 cm or 170 cm in width. The largest chassis had a wheelbase of 325 cm. The bodies were 453.5 cm and 455 cm long. There was no difference in track width and vehicle width. One source mentions a height of 225 cm, but does not state which body shape this information relates to. The turning circle was specified as 13 to 14 meters. The chassis weighed 900 kg, the complete vehicle 1450 to 1650 kg. There was a choice of double phaeton , touring cars , limousines and convertibles . The chassis cost 15,200 francs .
