The Alpine A610 Turbo is a sports car from the French sports car manufacturer Alpine and was officially only sold as Alpine and not, as is often assumed, as Renault Alpine. The car therefore only bears the Alpine brand emblems ex works.
The vehicle is the successor to the Alpine V6 Turbo model and was built between mid-1991 and the beginning of 1995 in Dieppe, northern France, in a number of 818 units (67 of them right-hand drive).
history
The type designation A610 followed the old tradition of type designations at Alpine again after a brief interruption in the previous models. Visually, the A610 is still very similar to the predecessor models built from 1984 and can be viewed as a further development of the US version from 1987. Technically, however, it was a completely new vehicle. The front of the vehicle was upgraded with a front fog lamp and folding headlights. The engine was a 3.0 liter turbo V6 made of aluminum (related to the PRV engine ) with 184 kW (250 PS). The car was thus around 265 km / h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.7 s. From now on, air conditioning and ABS were standard.
With the A610, the manufacturer attempted to enter the upper-class sports car segment, which raised the new car price for an Alpine A610 to DM 105,000.
Over the years there have been some special models of the A610. For example, on the occasion of the Winter Olympics in Albertville, there was a special model named after the venue, which was completely white. Even when the Formula 1 racing team Williams-Renault was very successful in 1992 and 1993 and won the constructors and world championship titles with Nigel Mansell and later Alain Prost , there was a special edition called Magny-Cours . This had Williams blue color and special design rims.
In 1994 a private team led by Patrick Legeay took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an A610 . An Alpine factory team no longer existed at this point. Also in 1994, two Alpine A610s were used as safety cars at Silverstone.
Production of the Alpine A610 was stopped at the beginning of 1995 because the numbers were too small. The Renault Sport Spider , which came onto the market in spring 1995 and was built for Renault by Alpine until autumn 1999, could be considered an indirect successor . The Renault Sport Spider is based on three Alpine prototypes from the 1980s.
