The national licensing authority granted the license on January 14, 1905. The predecessor was the Renault Type U (a) . The Type Y (a) existed in 1905 and the Type Y (b) from 1905 to 1906. The commercial vehicle variant Renault Type AJ from 1906 to 1909 was based on this model. The successor to both versions was the Renault Type AH .

A water-cooled two - cylinder engine with a 100 mm bore and 120 mm stroke produced 10 hp from a displacement of 1885 cm³ .
