Renault Espace II (type J63) refers to the second generation of the Espace MPV from Renault .
Model history
The 18 centimeter longer second series, also known as the J63 , was a further development on the J11 platform and was built from January 1991 to October 1996.
Both the body and the interior have been redesigned. The J63 received an even more aerodynamic, rounder shape and engines with higher performance. These were gasoline engines with four or six cylinders or turbocharged diesel engines , which allowed the top speed to be increased to up to 195 km / h. The J63 was also available as an all-wheel drive version Quadra .
In the People's Republic of China, the second generation rolled off the assembly line at Sanjiang Renault Automobile under the market name Renault Univers from 1994 to 1999 .
The second Espace was able to sell 316,419 copies in six years despite the increasing competition.
Espace F1
In 1994, on the 10th anniversary of the Espace, Renault presented a special version called "Espace F1" as part of a project study .
The Matra engineers used technology from Formula 1 , such as the Renault V10 engine from the 1993 season with 3.5 liter displacement and around 595 kW (810 hp), which enabled the Espace to cover 100 km in less than 3 seconds / h and could be accelerated to 200 km / h in under 7 seconds. The top speed was just over 300 km / h. However, the relatively unfavorable aerodynamics of the chosen body extension had a speed-limiting effect.
Series production was not planned and also not possible in this form, as the engine could only be started externally and this was installed in the middle of the cabin. This resulted in temperatures of over 60 degrees Celsius in the interior and a volume of well over 100 decibels .
