description

The presentation of the model as the successor to the Renault Type S took place in December 1903 at the Paris Motor Show . The national licensing authority granted the license on February 9, 1904. Marketing began in spring 1904. It was the first Renault model with the water cooler behind the engine. The design became typical for all subsequent Renault models for over 20 years. The Renault Type X replaced the model.

A four-cylinder engine with a 90 mm bore and 100 mm stroke produced 14 hp from a displacement of 3054 cm³ . One source gives a bore of 90 to 100 mm, a stroke of 100 to 120 mm, a displacement of 2545 to 3770 cm³ and 10 to 20 hp. The engine power was sent to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The maximum speed was specified as 52 km / h to 85 km / h, depending on the gear ratio.

With a wheelbase of 260 cm, the vehicle was 360 cm long and 160 cm wide. The chassis weighed 750 kg, the complete vehicle 900 to 1200 kg. There was a choice of double phaeton and tonneau . In December 1903 the price was 13,000 francs .

On November 4, 2016, the Bonhams auction house auctioned a vehicle from 1904 for EUR 325,537.

Renault Type U (c)

The only difference in this version was a transverse spring on the rear axle . The chassis was 5 cm higher in the rear area.

Renault Type U (d)

The national licensing authority granted the license on September 13, 1904. The chassis was longer than the other two models. The only known body version was a landaulet from Kellner & Cie .
