The Renault Type NM , and 40 CV called, was a passenger car model of the interwar period of Renault .

description

The national licensing authority granted its approval on January 28, 1925. The predecessor was the Renault Type MC . In 1928 the Renault Reinastella followed with an eight-cylinder engine .

The water-cooled six - cylinder engine with 110 mm bore and 160 mm stroke had a displacement of 9123 cm³ . The engine power was sent to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The top speed was specified as 84 km / h to 103 km / h, depending on the gear ratio.

With a wheelbase of either 380.1 cm or 399.4 cm and a track width of 144 cm, the vehicle was 493 cm or 501 cm long and 170 cm wide. A wheelbase of 387.1 cm has also been handed down for 1926. The turning circle was given as 16 to 17 meters. The chassis weighed 1700 kg, the complete vehicle 2700 kg. There was a choice of touring cars , convertibles , landaulets and Pullman sedans , the latter with both a fixed body and a Weymann body .

The prices for a chassis rose from 80,000 to 85,000 francs in December 1925 over 95,000 francs the following year to 105,000 francs in October 1927. At that time, a seven-seater touring car cost 125,000 francs and a Pullman limousine 132,000 francs.

François Repusseau won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1925 with a Type NM .

On May 11, 1925, drivers Ellery Garfield and Robert Plessier set records over 3 hours, 6 hours, 500 kilometers and 500 miles with a Type NM in a four-seater touring car body at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry . From June 3 to 4, 1925, the duo drove the same vehicle the world record distance of 3384.749 km in 24 hours , which corresponded to an average of 141.031 km / h. From July 9th to 10th, 1926 Garfield, Plessier and Paul Guillon drove a single-seater type NM body in 24 hours the world record distance of 4167.578 km, which corresponded to an average of 173.649 km / h. Vehicles of this type are featured in the 1928 films The Cardboard Lover , 1929 Desert Nights, and The Devil to Pay! seen from 1930.

Auctions

On August 12, 2012, RM Auctions auctioned a red Coupé de Ville from 1925 from the Aalholm Automobile Collection for 1,680,000 Danish kroner (around 225,000 euros ).

On February 7, 2013, Bonhams auctioned a gray touring car from 1927 with the British registration number SV 7171 for 166,750 euros.

RM Auctions auctioned a 1925 white touring car for $ 264,000 on July 26, 2014. The American classic car dealer Hyman Ltd. then offered this vehicle for $ 375,000, but incorrectly called it the Type JP .

A yellow landaulet is also on display in the Cité de l'Automobile - Musée National - Collection Schlumpf in Mulhouse .
