The Renault Type V was an early passenger car model from Renault . There were the versions Type V (a) , Type V (b) , Type V (c) and Type V-1 . They were also called 20 CV and 20/30 CV in 1909.

This model was Renault's first upper middle class model . The presentation took place at the Paris Motor Show in December 1904. On January 14, 1905, the national licensing authority granted the license. The successor was the Renault Type AS in 1909 .

A water-cooled four - cylinder engine with a 100 mm bore and 140 mm stroke produced 20  hp (15 kW) from a displacement of 4398 cm³ . The car had rear-wheel drive with a cardan shaft . Depending on the gear ratio, it reached a top speed of 49 km / h to 71 km / h.

The December 1904 exhibition vehicle had twelve-spoke wheels at the front and rear. In series production, the front wheels only had ten spokes. In the course of 1905, the rear wheels were also given ten spokes.

Renault Type V (a)

The Type V (a) version had a wheelbase of 272 cm and a track width of 140 cm. The vehicle was 380 cm long and 165 cm wide. The chassis weighed 900 kg, the complete vehicle 1400 to 1500 kg. The price was 16,500 francs or 18,000 francs for a double phaeton . This version was discontinued in mid-1906.

Renault Type V (b)

The Renault Type V (b) had a wheelbase of 291 cm and was 400 cm long. Track gauge and width were the same as the Type V (a). The same data are also given for weight and price. Double phaeton, phaeton and limousine have been handed down. Production of the Type V (b) also ended in mid-1906.

Renault Type V (c)

The type V (c) variant was only offered until 1905. It corresponded to type V (b) . However, a landaulet was the only body shape offered. The price is not recorded.

Renault Type V-1

The national licensing authority approved the Type V-1 on June 16, 1906. The engine was unchanged. The wheelbase was either 308 cm or 325 cm with a 140 cm track width. The vehicle was 426.5 cm or 443.5 cm long and 168 cm wide, depending on the wheelbase. The chassis weighed 900 kg. Limousine, landaulet and double phaeton are known. The original price was 16,500 francs in 1906 and 1907, 16,000 francs in 1908 and 15,500 francs in 1909. The maximum speed was specified with 60 km / h to 73 km / h.

The American classic car dealer Hyman Ltd. exhibited a Type V-1 from 1909 as a double phaeton at the Techno-Classica in Essen in March 2014 and offered the vehicle for sale on the Internet.
