The Renault Type C was the third passenger car model of Renault , designed by Louis Renault .

description

This model was reported in the press as early as November 1899. The presentation did not take place until April 1900. Production started at the same time. The Type C was the largest Renault model to date and had no predecessor. The Renault Type B was also in production . Production ended in the same year. Depending on the source, 137 or 179 vehicles were built. Successor was Renault Type D .

A single cylinder engine from De Dion-Bouton with a bore of 80 mm and a stroke of 90 mm produced 3 hp from a displacement of 452 cm³ . One source gives a bore of 80 to 90 mm, a stroke of 80 to 110 mm, but a uniform displacement of 450 cm³. This was the first water-cooled engine on a Renault. The engine power was sent to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The maximum speed was given as 30 km / h to 40 km / h.

One vehicle received a built-in engine from Aster , which also had 3 HP.

With a wheelbase of 150 cm, the vehicle was 240 cm long, 120 cm wide and 145 cm high. The empty weight was between 400 kg and 450 kg. There was a choice of two-seater Phaeton with and without a rear emergency seat, tonneau , coupé with rear emergency seat and panel van .

The original price was 4500 francs for the Phaeton.

Most vehicles were steered with a vertical steering lever. Some vehicles, like the following models, received a slightly inclined steering column with steering wheel .

Messrs Schrader and Oury started on April 28, 1900 with an Aster-motorized Type C on a 5000 kilometer journey through France .

On November 2, 2012, the Bonhams auction house auctioned a tonneau for 68,991 euros .
