The Renault Type AX was an early passenger car model from Renault . It was also called 7/8 CV and from 1910 8 CV .

description

The national licensing authority granted its approval on September 23, 1908. Renault did not have a vehicle of this small size in its range in previous years. The numbers were high. The successor was the Renault Type EK in 1913 .

A water-cooled two - cylinder engine with vertical valves propelled the vehicle. It had 75 mm bore , 120 mm stroke , 1060 cm³ displacement and 6 to 8  HP (4.4 to 6 kW) power. Another source gives a 75 to 80 mm bore and the resulting 1060 to 1206 cm³ displacement. The engine power was sent to the rigid rear axle via a cardan shaft . The front axle was also rigid; Both axes were suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs.

The maximum speed was specified as 42 km / h to 65 km / h, depending on the gear ratio.

With a wheelbase of 195 cm and a track width of 115 cm, the vehicle was 290 cm and 290.5 cm long and 133.6 cm and 135 cm wide. One source gives the height as 180 cm. The chassis weighed 500 kg, the complete vehicle 800 kg. In 1910 the wheelbase was increased to 210 cm. This changed the vehicle length to 306 cm.

There was a choice of Phaeton , Torpedo , Roadster , Sedan , Landaulet , Coupé , Tonneau , pick-up and panel van . The most common body shape was that of a two-seater Phaeton. The two-seater tonneau followed at a distance.

In 1908 the chassis cost 4650 francs and a two-seater Phaeton 5000 francs. In 1913 the prices were 4200 francs for a chassis, 4600 francs for a Phaeton and 4900 francs for a torpedo.

Market value

These vehicles are rarely offered at auctions .

Sotheby's in 2007 auctioned one as taxi karosseriertes vehicle from 1910 to 68,750 US dollars . In early 2011, The Scottsdale Auction sold an open two-seater from 1908 for $ 68,200. The auction house Bonhams auctioned a torpedo from 1911 on April 30, 2012 and expected a price of 38,000 to 44,000 euros . It is unclear whether the vehicle was actually sold. On August 12, 2012, Sotheby's auctioned an open two-seater from 1908 from the Aalholm Collection . Between 35,000 and 40,000 euros were expected. The sales price was 1,148,000 Danish kroner , the equivalent of around 150,000 euros, which is significantly higher. In 2013, H & H Auctions achieved a price of $ 35,048 for a touring car from 1910. Also in 2013, Bonhams offered a touring car from 1910 for which no price has been recorded. Bonhams offered a 1909 two-seater in September 2019 and was expecting between £ 18,000 and £ 22,000.
