The Renault 25 ( R25 for short ) was a passenger car produced by the French car manufacturer Renault . It was manufactured from April 1984 to February 1992 in Sandouville near Le Havre in northern France .
Model history
Planning for the R25 began as early as 1977. The model, which was intended to be the successor to the Renault 20 and Renault 30 , was presented at the Geneva Motor Show and came onto the market in spring 1984. The previous distinction between a four-cylinder model (R20) and a six-cylinder top model (R30) offered under a different name has been abandoned. Both engine types were now offered under the same model name.
With a separate body and modified chassis designed by Giorgio Giugiaro , the Eagle Premier and the Dodge Monaco were offered in the USA from 1988 to 1992 with, among other things, the 3.0-liter V6 PRV engine .
body
As with the R16 and R20 / R30, Renault continued to use the hatchback for the R25 , although a notchback was indicated in the shape of the body line. In preproduction projects by Robert Opron and Marc Deschamps , both notchbacks and hatchbacks were considered under the designation "Renault M" and "129". The dashboard was designed by Marcello Gandini in Italy.
The fact that the Renault 25 had a favorable aerodynamic drag value for this era, which was even better than that of the Audi 100 C3 from 1982, went largely unnoticed by the public . The C w value was 0.28.
In the spring of 1985, a version with a wheelbase longer by 22.7 cm was launched as the Renault 25 sedan , with correspondingly more foot space between the front and rear seats. It could be recognized from the outside by longer rear doors and a wider B-pillar . The model was built by Heuliez and was primarily intended for political dignitaries. 832 vehicles of this type were built between April 1985 and June 1986.
Equipment features
As a novelty, a speaking on-board computer was offered which, in addition to the indicator lights, monitored vehicle functions and commented upon request. In the V6 Injection model variant, it was part of the standard equipment.
Facelift
In June 1988 the R25 received a facelift for the 1989 model year . The body shape was rounded off at the front, the new rear lights were wider. The dimensions of the body remained unchanged, but the interior was slightly modified. The seats were offered with new cover fabrics and made more ergonomic. The dashboard received modified ventilation slots and was padded in the early 1990s.
The engines were also adapted to the technical development. All gasoline engines were equipped with a 3-way catalytic converter. The top model was called Baccara and was equipped, among other things, with automatic air conditioning, leather upholstery and root wood applications.
In February 1992 production of the Renault 25 was stopped. According to Renault, 40,458 copies of the R25 were sold in Germany. In May 1992 it was replaced by the Renault Safrane .
