The Renault KZ was a passenger car model of the interwar period of Renault . It was also called 10 CV .

description

The national licensing authority granted its approval on November 28, 1922. The model replaced the Renault Type II and Renault Type IM . Model updates led to Type KZ 1 , Type KZ 2 , Type KZ 3 , Type KZ 4 and Type KZ 5 . In 1931 the Renault Primaquatre replaced the short versions and the Renault Vivaquatre the long versions. These two models were offered under the correct model names, but initially still had type KZ as the type code . The last variant was the type KZ 11 from 1933.

The water-cooled four - cylinder engine with a 75 mm bore and 120 mm stroke had a displacement of 2121 cm³ . The cooler was placed in the first years still behind the engine. In contrast to previous Renault models, the bonnet was just as wide and high as the radiator. The engine power was sent to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The top speed of the first version was specified as 47 km / h to 56 km / h, depending on the gear ratio.

Type KZ

The first version remained in production until 1926. With a wheelbase of 280.8 cm and a track width of 144 cm, the vehicle was between 370.8 cm and 380 cm long and 164 cm wide. The turning circle was given as 13 meters. The chassis weighed 750 kg, the complete vehicle 1320 kg. There was a choice of touring cars , four-seater sedans and coupé sedans with six seats. The surcharge for front brakes was 1,800 francs, more than 10% of the price for the chassis.

In the first quarter of 1924, two chassis of different lengths with unchanged gauge were available. The normal chassis with a 290.8 cm wheelbase made for a vehicle length of 385 cm and a vehicle width of 164 cm. The luxe chassis with a 301 cm wheelbase enabled a vehicle length of 385.5 cm or 405 cm and a vehicle width of 170 cm.

The short chassis was commonly used for vehicles that were used for business. This resulted in touring cars and coupé sedans with six seats, two of which are folding seats facing the direction of travel. Luxury touring cars, four-seat limousines, six-seat coupé-limousines and taxi landaulets have been handed down for the long chassis .

In October 1924, four-seater touring cars and limousines were in the range.

In 1925 the type KZ Colonial added to the range. This was a four-seater touring car on the short chassis.

In December 1925 there were four-seat touring cars, four-seat luxury touring cars and sedans.

Type KZ 1

The model upgrade in 1926 brought a new type code for the first time. The hood was shaped slightly differently. The new Renault emblem in the shape of a diamond was striking , while a round emblem was previously used. According to one source, the front fenders were now round, while another source still shows a Manessius body with the old, long tapering front fenders . The vehicle dimensions remained unchanged. In October 1926, the short chassis provided the basis for normal touring cars, Colonial touring cars , sedans with a fixed body and landaulet taxis. On the long chassis there were luxury touring cars, limousines with a light Weymann body and two-seater roadsters .

Type KZ 2

The model update in 1927 brought front and rear bumpers as a visual distinguishing feature . A single-disc dry clutch has now been used. The authorities classified the vehicle as 11 CV , but Renault kept the name 10 CV . The short chassis is no longer mentioned. With a wheelbase of 301 cm, the vehicle was 425 cm long and 165 cm wide. The weight was 1650 kg. In October 1927, four-seater touring cars and sedans were in the range.

Type KZ 3

The model upgrade in 1928 brought a slightly lower chassis and a banjo axle in the rear. The tool was now placed below the driver's seat and no longer distributed on both sides of the body, which were accessible from the outside through flaps underneath the doors. Traditional and luxury five-seat touring cars, five-seat sedans, convertibles with two to three seats, five-seat normal and luxury sedans, and seven-seat Pullman sedans have been handed down .

At the beginning of 1929, the Commerciale added to the range for business purposes. This was a four-door sedan with six side windows and possibly another door in the rear that gave access to the interior. Sales remained low.

Type KZ 4

The major change in the model upgrade in 1929 was that the radiator was placed in front of the engine. The grille was set at a slight angle. There were no ventilation slots on the sides of the bonnet. The track width was 144 cm at the front and 145.4 cm at the rear. There was a choice of two chassis of different lengths, 310.7 cm or 334.7 cm. The vehicles were 440 cm long and 170 cm wide. The curb weight was 1650 kg. On offer were five-seat touring cars, five-seat sedans normal and luxury, seven-seat sedans normal and luxury, another five-seat luxury sedan, a Torpedo commercial and a business sedan that provided access to the interior from the rear.

Type KZ 5

The model upgrade in 1930 brought 24 vertical ventilation slots in both sides of the bonnet as a visual distinguishing feature. Instead of a front bench, there were two individual seats. The following versions have been handed down: five-seat touring car, torpedo commerciale , business limousine (without bumpers), taxi landaulet; based on the short wheelbase, five-seater sedan (with an extra charge with trunk) and seven-seater sedan; Five-seat sedan and seven-seat sedan based on the long wheelbase.

Type KZ 11

This variant appeared in April 1933. The basis was the Renault Vivaquatre Type KZ 9 . The track width of 144 cm at the front and 145.4 cm at the rear corresponded to the type KZ 5 . The model could be distinguished from this version by three ventilation flaps on both sides of the bonnet. With a wheelbase of 289.3 cm, the vehicles were 430 cm long and 177 cm wide. Only the sedan body shape has survived. Customers were the Paris taxi companies Kermina Métropole (G 2) , Compagnie Générale des Voitures à Paris (G 3) and Compagnie Française des Automobiles de Place (G 7) . A total of about 2400 copies of this taxi were made . The last ones were used until 1959.
