The Renault Type AI was an early passenger car model from Renault . It was also called 35 CV and from 1909 35/45 CV .

description

Renault presented the vehicle at the Paris Motor Show in December 1905. The national registration authority granted its registration on June 16, 1906. It was Renault's first luxury vehicle and therefore had no predecessor. Type AI (c) and AI (d) were variants. Production ran until 1910. The Renault Type AO and the Renault Type AT racing car were modified . The successor, the Renault Type CF , appeared in 1911.

A water-cooled four - cylinder engine with a 130 mm bore and 140 mm stroke produced 30 to 40 hp from a displacement of 7433 cm³ . The engine power was sent to the rear axle via a cardan shaft . The maximum speed was specified as 73 km / h to 86 km / h or 95 km / h to 100 km / h for the variants Type AI (c) and AI (d) , depending on the gear ratio .

This standard model was in production the entire time. With a wheelbase of 335.5 cm and a track width of 140 cm, the vehicle was 454.5 cm long and 169 cm wide. In 1910 the length increased to 464.5 cm. The chassis weighed 1000 kg, the complete vehicle 1800 kg. There was a choice of double phaeton , touring car , limousine , Phaeton and landaulet . A slightly larger chassis with a 358.5 cm wheelbase and 145 cm track width ensured a vehicle length of 477.5 cm and a vehicle width of 178.6 cm. The vehicle weight was then 2000 kg.

Renault Type AI (c)

This light and at the same time somewhat sportier variant was approved on July 16, 1907. With a wheelbase of 328 cm, the vehicle was 440 cm long and 165 cm wide. It weighed only 1750 kg. The body shapes Doppelphaeton and Phaeton have been handed down.

The sports car with the British registration number CL 1493 still exists today. Its engine delivers 42 hp or 60 hp. The Brooks auction house put this vehicle up for auction on July 22, 1992 and expected a price of £ 180,000 to £ 240,000 , but did not sell the vehicle.

Renault Type AI (d)

This variant replaced Type AI (c) on June 3, 1908, when it was approved, and remained in the range until 1910. With a wheelbase of 328 cm and a track width of 126 cm, the vehicle was 431 cm long and 156 cm wide. In 1910 the vehicle length increased to 443.5 cm. There was a choice of Phaeton with jump seat, double phaeton, roadster , touring car and limousine.
