Renault Super Galion SG4
The Renault Super Galion SG4 was a truck that the Renault subsidiary Saviem produced in Blainville-sur-Orne (Normandy) from 1965 to 1982. The model was based on the Renault Super Goélette SG2 . At the time, the Super Galion SG4 was the only truck with a total weight of 6 tons that had independent front suspension. The rear axle was designed as a rigid axle.
A 2.1-liter gasoline engine with 70 hp (51 kW) (type 671) or a 3.0-liter diesel engine with 75 hp (55 kW) (type 591), each with a 4-speed Manual transmission. The cabin had a curved windshield and plastic dashboard. In 1967 the windshield was extended downwards and the headlights were now rectangular.
In 1969, either a 2.6-liter gasoline engine with 78 hp (57 kW) or a 3.3-liter diesel engine with direct injection and 92 hp (68 kW) output, built under license from MAN , replaced the previous engine variants. At the same time, the model was now sold as the Saviem SG4 / SG5.
In Germany the model was sold by MAN as MAN / Saviem SG5. In 1979 the grille became wider and was now made of black plastic; In addition, the Renault trademark, the rhombus, was now also applied. From April the model was sold again as Renault SG4 / SG5, as Saviem and Berliet had merged to Renault Véhicules Industriels . The model was built until 1982.
After that, Avia manufactured the SG4 as its own model in Czechoslovakia under license .
