The Renault España SA , internally with the acronym RESA abbreviated, is an automobile manufacturer with corporate headquarters in Madrid , Spain . The company is a subsidiary of the French Renault SA and is the official representative of the French group in the Spanish territories. Around 2,700 employees work for the company. The company's management currently reports to the company's President Jean Pierre Laurent .

The company has existed as a local trade organization for the sale of vehicles since the first decade of the 20th century . It was not until a joint venture with state participation that local automobile production began in 1953 at the Valladolid site . A large number of different subsidiaries were then established. A design and development center was even built in Barcelona , which has now taken on an important position in the Renault group. The most famous products of this center are the Renault models 7 , 15 , 17 / 177 , 19 , Fuego , and the combination and coupe versions of the Mégane . All these models mentioned are or have been manufactured exclusively in Spain without exception. However, some of these models are also assembled in other factories of the group .

The first independent production of automobiles started in the early 1970s in parallel to the FASA joint venture at the new location in Palencia . The company produces the transmissions for the automobiles in a separate plant near Seville . Since entering the automotive industry, the Spanish company has worked its way up to one of the few globally operating companies within the French group. The production of the globally successful Mégane helped to achieve this position. But the new mode also promoted this rapid rise and helped to open up new markets, mainly in Asia.

Since April 2010 the company has been an official contract partner of the Renault-Nissan Alliance in Spain. Participation in the MOVELE Madrid plan has been agreed, under which the development, production and sales of emission-free passenger cars fall. To comply with this contract is currently produced by the subsidiary Factoría Carrocería Montaje Valladolid Renault España SA of Renault Twizy . The company would like to establish more electric cars on the markets by autumn 2014 .
