The Munich Airport Fire Brigade is the factory fire brigade of Flughafen München GmbH . This was recognized by the government of Upper Bavaria. She is also a member of the Munich City Fire Brigade Association . It is the largest plant fire brigade in Bavaria . Her area of responsibility includes technical assistance and fire fighting in air traffic, its facilities, buildings and facilities in the area of the airport and, within the framework of the Bavarian Fire Brigade Act, also outside the airport. The 252 employees are currently on duty in two guard departments. At least 50 employees must be present at all times to ensure that the fire brigade is ready to alert and deploy.

history

Guard north

The airport fire brigade initially looked after Munich-Riem Airport , where it was set up as a plant fire brigade from 1949. The fire station was right next to the control tower ; However, over time it was no longer sufficient, which is why a new fire station was moved to next to the hangars in 1966. The 1972 Summer Olympics meant a large increase in passengers, which is why the team, vehicles and equipment were increased in the early 1970s. For the first time, two large fire engines and a powder thrower were procured. With the planning for the new Munich Airport in Erdinger Moos , the requirements for the airport fire brigade changed, which is why preparations for the upcoming move began as early as the mid-1970s. When construction began on the airport at the end of the 1970s, the fire brigade accompanied the work on the site. In 1987 the fire brigade again expanded significantly in terms of staffing levels, and in 1988 an outside guard was set up on the construction site of the new airport near the construction center, in which six fire brigade employees were now on duty. The south and north fire stations were completed in 1991, and the move took place in September of the same year, with only the south fire station being permanently manned until operations began. By 1992 the airport fire brigade had invested in 14 new vehicles and other new equipment. When flight operations began in October 1991 because Lufthansa was using the hangars for renovation work on its Boeing 747 fleet, attendance increased again. With the opening of the new airport in May 1992, Munich-Riem was closed at the same time, but the airport fire brigade was still present there until June 1992. Since July 1, 1992, both fire stations at Munich Airport have been manned. Due to the plans for a new, third runway (rejected in the referendum) north of the northern runway, the construction of a third fire station is planned.

organization

The fire brigade is part of the "Group Security" division of the airport and is divided into 7 organizational units:
