Ziegler Z
The Z-series are the Z-series airfield fire-fighting vehicles (FLF) from the Ziegler fire department outfitter . In addition to the Z series, Ziegler also offers another FLF, the so-called Advancer FLF 2-axis . The Z1 started the Z series, but it only exists as a single copy. Ziegler currently offers three vehicles in this series: the Ziegler Z4 (since 2015), the Ziegler Z6 and the Ziegler Z8 .
As an alternative to the roof monitor, an HRET extinguishing telescopic articulated arm and, since 2015, the Z-Attack developed by Ziegler itself, are offered for the Z6 and Z8 . Before that, Ziegler's so-called Snozzle was used, the patent of which is now owned by the Oshkosh Corporation .
The maximum values for extinguishing agents are given below. There is no typical version of the vehicles, because these are adapted to the respective application requirements and specially put together in this regard. The data therefore relate to the values specified by the manufacturer.
Breakdown of the vehicle designation
The vehicles are named according to the scheme
"AA - FLF BB / CC-D + EE P + FFF CO2",
whereby the individual fields have the following meaning:
- A - Basis: Z4 , Z6 or Z8
- FLF - Abbreviation for airfield fire engine
- B - nominal delivery rate of the extinguishing pump in hectoliters (100 l) / min
- C - volume of the water tanks in hectoliters
- D - volume of foam concentrate tanks in hectoliters
- E - mass in kg of the powder carried
- F - mass in kg of the CO 2 carried

The only Ziegler Z1 ever built was exhibited at Interschutz 1988, but only sold in 1990.
It is now to be used at Baia Mare Airport in Romania.

Ziegler Z8
There are four generations of the Ziegler Z8:
The first generation was created around 1997. Here, from above the wheel arches, the lateral outer surfaces are inclined inwards by around 15 °, and above the front window by another 15 °.
In the second generation from 2000, the outer side surfaces are straight. The pump motor located behind the driver's compartment has ventilation grilles on both sides instead of wide ventilation slots, as in the first generation.
With the transition to the third generation around 2010, the pump motor will be moved to the rear of the drive motor. Where the ventilation grille of the pump motor used to be, there is now a roller blind. The engine compartment is now no longer delimited by a roller blind, but by large slots that are backed with grids.
The fourth generation Z8 XXL will be introduced from 2012 . Instead of the MAN chassis, one from Titan is now used. The most noticeable changes are the symmetrical spacing of the axles and the barred engine compartment. The permissible total mass is increased to 52,000 kilograms, which made it necessary to increase the engine power. Instead of one, two drive motors are now installed. The pump still has its own motor.
