The Baia Mare Airport ( IATA : BAY ; ICAO : LRBM ; rum. Aeroportul Internaţional Baia Mare ) is a Romanian regional airport about ten minutes by car from Baia Mare from south of the small town Tăuţii-Măgherăuş .

The history of the airport goes back to 1929. Before the war he served in the Romanian Air Force. When this part of Transylvania once again belonged to Hungary during the Second World War, it was called Nagybánya or Nagy Bánya .

In 1964 work began on building a 1,400 m long paved runway . From 1966, the airport was regularly served by smaller mail planes. From 1977 to 1979 the runway was extended to a length of 1,800 m.

From 2016-2019 the slope was extended to 2150 m.


AIMS

All year round: previously from the airline TAROM with ATR 42-500 March 2020.

From May, TAROM will be served by ATR 72-600 from Henri Coandă Airport .

Summer 2020: Antalya with Blue Air , TAROM , Corendon Airlines and Egypt

Incidents

  • On February 22, 1996, an Antonov An-24RV of the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority ( aircraft registration YR-BMK ) collided with tree tops while approaching Baia Mare airport and fell into a house. The aircraft was on a calibration flight for the local approach aids. All 8 occupants and 2 people on the ground were killed in the crash.
