The Iasi Airport ( IATA : IAS , ICAO : LRIA ; rumän. Aeroportul Internaţional Iaşi ) is a Romanian airport near the city of Iasi . He is a hub of TAROM .
history
The first scheduled flights on the airfield, which was then equipped with a grass runway, took place in 1926 with aircraft from the state airline TAROM .
From 1966 various modernization and expansion projects took place at Iași Airport. In addition to a new passenger terminal, a paved runway in the direction of 15/33 with a length of 1780 meters was built. However, there was no taxiway , so aircraft had to use the runway before takeoff or after landing to get into position.
These expansion measures in the 1960s meant that TAROM listed Iași Airport in the flight plan again. From Iași, destinations such as Bucharest, Arad and Timișoara were served.
In 2001 a new passenger building was built, which replaced the old system. It has a capacity of 100 international and 150 domestic passengers per hour. The runway is currently equipped with an instrument landing system of the Cat. II (14) equipped with Approach Lighting Systems (ALSF II).
In 2007, planning began for a comprehensive expansion of the airport. The airport is expected to have an annual capacity of 1.5 million passengers by 2042. For this purpose, a third terminal with 3400 m³ of usable space was built, which has a capacity of 450 passengers per hour. In addition, a new runway was built next to the old one in a slightly different orientation (14/32). The previous runway now serves as a taxiway. In addition, the apron will be expanded and other smaller measures implemented. Financing is provided with support from the European Regional Development Fund . The EU bears over 68% of the costs. The runway was completed at the end of 2015; Terminal 3 was officially opened on October 17, 2015.
