The Arad Airport , romanian Aeroportul Internaţional Arad and internationally Arad International Airport is an international airport in the city of Arad ( Romania ) in the same district , which is also operator of the airport.

history

The groundbreaking for the construction of the Arad airport was in 1936, the inauguration followed on November 14, 1937. At that time the airport had a simple grass runway, but this was replaced in 1953 by a 2000 meter long concrete runway, which is today is the only active runway at the airport. The active passenger terminal is a few decades old and has a lounge.

In the spring of 1941 it served the German Air Force as an operational base as part of the Wehrmacht's Balkan campaign .

Todays use

The airport does not currently offer any passenger transport connections. In the past, routes to Milan, Verona and Stuttgart, for example, were flown by Wizzair, Blue Air and Carpatair, but these have since been discontinued.

The airport also has a cargo building that is used regularly.
