  • Bus : From the main train station ( Stazione FS ) with the Aerobus (every 15 min, 20 min transfer)

history

The first airport in Bologna was in Prati di Caprara since 1913. In 1931, on the initiative of the Aero Club of Bologna, it was relocated to Borgo Panigale, where the airport is still located today. The first scheduled flights were offered by Avio Linee Italiane in 1933 , and three years later by Ala Littoria . During the Second World War it served as a military airfield . The airport was expanded in the early 1960s.

The airport was closed for a few months in 2004; the runway was extended from 2400 to 2800 m. Almost all flights were handled at Forlì airport during this period .

After the five million passenger mark was exceeded in 2009, the expansion of the airport began in November 2011. In addition to an increase in the area on land and airside, new check-in counters, security controls, new piers and an expansion of the sales area, an automatic system was also installed for the first time in Italy, allowing passengers to check in their luggage independently. In 2017, the airport recorded more than eight million passengers for the first time, an increase of 17.7 percent compared to the previous year.
