The Perugia airport ( ICAO code : LIRZ , IATA code : PEG , Ital .: Aeroporto di Perugia-Sant'Egidio "San Francesco d'Assisi" ) is an international Italian airport . It is located 10 km east of Perugia at an altitude of 212 m AMSL . It is the only commercial airport in the Umbria region . It is named after Francis of Assisi .

Infrastructure

The airport has a 2,199 m long, 45 m wide asphalt runway oriented 01/19. A DVOR / DME , a VDF direction finder and a PAPI system are available as navigation and approach aids . An ILS CAT I is also available for approaches in landing direction 01 .

Two taxiways lead from the runway to the apron to the west with the only terminal. The terminal was renewed in 2011 and 2012 based on a design by architect Gae Aulenti . The tower is to the south and several hangars to the north .

airspace

An Aerodrome Traffic Zone ( airspace D ) has been set up within 5  NM (approx. 9 km) of the airport , which extends from the ground to a height of 2500 ft (762 m) above the ground. This is enclosed by a control zone (also airspace D ). The flight restriction area LI-R36 is still within the Aerodrome Traffic Zone to the west of the airport and the air restriction area LI-P252 to the east of it .

The most important local airline is Ryanair . In addition, regional and charter airlines operate in Perugia.

Connection

Buses connect the airport with Perugia Central Station. The journey time is around 20 minutes.

Others

The airport is to be expanded further. The nearby Foligno airport has similar plans and wants to become the second commercial airport in Umbria.
