Tăuții-Măgherăuș [ ˈtəutsi-məgerəuʃ ] ( Hungarian Miszmogyorós ) is a small town in Maramureș County in Romania .
location
Tăuții-Măgherăuș is located in the Sathmar region near the mouth of the Lăpuș River in the Someș (German Somesch ). The district capital Baia Mare is located about 8 km to the east.
history
The oldest archaeological evidence of human settlement in the area comes from the Paleolithic .
According to the Hungarian historian Gyula Schönherr, indirect references to the existence of the place go back to the beginning of the 13th century. In the 15th century, some Hussites persecuted in Bohemia are said to have left their homeland and settled in Tăuăii-Măgherăuș - which at that time belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary .
The first written mention of the village took place in 1440. Tăuții-Măgherăuș was long characterized by agriculture and viticulture.
After the end of the First World War , the place came to Romania. In 1964, the Baia Mare Airport was opened south of Tăuții-Măgherăuș . There is mining for gold in the area. Other important industries are agriculture and wood processing.
In 2004 Tăuții-Măgherăuș was declared a city.
population
In 1880 3636 people lived in the area of today's city, of which only 347 in Tăuții-Măgherăuș and 3289 in the now incorporated places. 2446 of these identified themselves as Romanians , 1144 as Hungarians and 29 as Germans . In 1966, the maximum population was 7968. In the 2002 census, 6,713 inhabitants were registered, of which 2,232 were in Tăuții-Măgherăuș and 4,481 in the incorporated villages. 5660 were Romanians, 969 Hungarians, 70 Roma and 10 Germans.
traffic
Tăuții-Măgherăuș itself has no rail connection. The incorporated town of Buşag has a stop on the Satu Mare – Baia Mare railway line . There are regular bus connections to Baia Mare.
