Tank farms are facilities in which combustibles and / or fuels can be stored. They consist of a number of tanks in which products such as motor gasoline , heating oil , diesel fuel , heavy oil , naphtha , liquefied natural gas , vegetable oil and alcohol are stored.

Tank farms are z. B. for the intermediate storage of oil in oil production, in oil ports, in oil refineries , in the chemical industry and in the sales markets for oil and chemical products. They are loaded and unloaded by ships, trains ( tank cars ), trucks or pipelines . Tank farms make a contribution to the strategic oil reserve .

Types of tank farms

Tank farms can be designed above or below ground or as floating units ( FSU, FSO, FPSO ). The largest underground tank farm in the world with a capacity of over 300,000 cubic meters is the Farge tank farm in Bremen.
