Suction pipe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A suction pipe is a pipe that delivers the liquid or gas to a pump .

Applications

Sometimes intake pipe also means part of the intake tract of an internal combustion engine .

The hose with the largest volume in the fire service is the so-called " A suction pipe ". It is a dimensionally stable hose that does not collapse under negative pressure. With it, extinguishing water is sucked in from open waters. It has a water throughput of up to 800 l / min.

In swimming pools, large amounts of water are fed into the filter system through suction pipes , cleaned and then pumped back into the pool . The control of the water quality is carried out via measuring water extraction points. Both types of suction pipes have often been the cause of serious swimming accidents in the past , since the bather can be attracted due to the high volume flow. Rescue is only possible by cutting off sucked hair, if a suction grille attached to cover the suction pipe does not meet the relevant safety regulations. If there is no suction grille installed, rescue is usually no longer possible as whole body parts are sucked in. The DINEN 13 451-3 stipulates strict criteria for the protection of the suction openings, based on this the hair trap test is carried out according to leaflet 60.03 of the German Society for the Bathing Industry DGfdB. Here, the maximum possible volume flow is determined depending on the water depth; the hair catch test is also carried out as empirical evidence. The curvature of the suction grille prevents negative pressure in the suction pipe if a part of the body is attracted.
