A trailer ladder (short: AL ) according to DIN 14703 is a German fire service trailer with a ladder structure. It consists of a single-axle chassis with a pulling device and a hand-operated ladder drive with an extendable and extendable ladder set. Ladders are only occasionally used by volunteer fire departments or company fire departments.

Towed ladders can weigh up to two tons , depending on their size and were previously made of wood, but are now made of metal across the board. In the event of a fire, the ladder is attached to a towing vehicle (usually a fire engine ), whereby the maximum permissible speed for the team is usually less than 60 km / h. If no towing vehicle is available, it can also be pulled to the deployment site by hand.

The ladder is brought into position by four firefighters in accordance with fire service regulations. To do this, the chassis must first be aligned horizontally. This is to achieve a safe stand. The four support spindles are secured by shims. The ladder park is usually extended by hand. More and more modern towed ladders are also increasingly used for auxiliary drives for this purpose. Some ladders are also available with additional accessories such as B. equipped with a rescue sled or a rescue cage. The discharge of water via the tip of the ladder must not take place to the sides, as the restoring forces can otherwise endanger the safe standing of the ladder.

Since the setting up of the ladder takes a lot of time, it is rarely used in a fire brigade. It is mainly used as a work manager.

In Germany the AL 10, AL 12, AL 14, AL 16, AL 18 (AL 16-4) and AL 22 are used, whereby the number indicates the maximum rescue height. In brackets is the designation according to the nominal rescue height and projection corresponding to the turntable ladders. In Germany, the standard was withdrawn without replacement in 2007. The last version only contained AL 16-4.

history

The first extension ladder was built in 1761 . This type of ladder was later fixed on a chassis and thus served as a trailer ladder. At first people or horses pulled this vehicle. In a later chronological sequence, motorized towing vehicles were used.
