In contrast to emergency vehicles , fire service trailers are rarely standardized in Germany . The only trailers currently standardized according to DIN are the trailer with foam water cannon (FwA-SWW) according to DIN 14521 and the boat trailer according to DIN 14962. For example, standardized portable pump trailers (TSA), ladders (AL) and traffic safety trailers (VSA) also existed in the past .

Apart from the norm, the fire departments have a wide variety of supporters. These include, for example, powder fire trailers , foam compound trailers , hose transport trailers (STA), light mast trailers (FwA-Lima) and oil service trailers (ÖSA oil damage trailer). The latter are loaded , for example, with oil barriers , larger and seldom required special equipment, tools and material for removing oil traces. However, unloaded trailers with a loading area, so-called multi-purpose trailers (MZA), are also used. These can be equipped with a wide variety of equipment as required. Many fire brigades use field cookers , which are also built on a trailer chassis, to supply the emergency services at emergency sites or exercises .

The civil defense trailers are often used. This is a single-axle unbraked trailer with a steel tub that can be opened at the rear. There is a plug-in structure for 6 hose reels for this trailer. Since they are available in large numbers, and due to the reorganization of the civil defense, some came into the possession of the fire brigades, they are often expanded and rebuilt with their own resources.

In addition, a wide variety of trailers are of course used, which are adapted to the special needs of the respective fire brigade, such as hose laying trailers.

There is also a standardized civil defense trailer for the Type 2 motorized sprayer, which corresponds to the German TSA, which the fire brigades were happy to adopt unchanged. These motorized sprayer trailers are reserved as reserve equipment in many fire brigades, and in small militia fire departments they are often the only two motorized sprayer.
