Fire truck trailer in Germany
Numerous trailers (FwA) are particularly widespread in German fire departments , but only two of them are currently standardized .
History of the fire truck trailer
From a historical point of view, fire-fighting equipment carriers in the structural form to be attached to a towing vehicle or draft animals formed the origin of the transport of the emergency equipment to the place of use after the hand-pushed fire-fighting equipment carriers . The development of trailers from, for example, a horse trailer to a trailer pulled by a motor-driven vehicle has taken place without a definable transition, as many trailers have been modified accordingly to reflect technical developments. With the increasing equipment of fire brigades during industrialization at the beginning of the 20th century with internal combustion engine-powered vehicles , the trailer became increasingly less important. The fire service trailer (primarily the portable pump trailer ) was given a high priority during the National Socialist era , when it was used across the board by the fire police and air raid protection. The portable fire truck trailer, for example, has been and is often used in industrial companies for the plant fire brigade or in rural areas to ensure fire protection up to the present day, albeit with declining importance. The importance of the fire service trailer today is therefore almost exclusively limited as a device carrier for additional and special equipment of the fire service.
Standardized trailers
Trailer with foam water cannon
The trailer with foam water cannon (FwA-SWW) is standardized in DIN 14521. He carries 500 liters of wetting agent and a duct for light foam . The trailer also contains 240 liters of foam compound (foam images) , a medium foam pipe , a heavy foam pipe , a proportioner "Z4", a proportioner "Z2" and the eponymous foam and water cannon .
Boat trailer
The boat trailer is a boat trailer (standardized according to DIN 14962), which usually transports a multi-purpose or lifeboat . According to the standard, it has a storage box for storing two wheel chocks and some tensioning straps . In addition, a cable winch and two aluminum equipment boxes can be carried on the chassis as non-standardized cargo . The corresponding multi-purpose boats and lifeboats are standardized according to DIN 14961.
Not or no longer standardized trailers
In addition to the DIN-standardized trailers, there are numerous other trailers that are not currently stipulated uniformly nationwide. The information below is therefore only an example and not mandatory:
Multipurpose trailer
Multi-purpose trailers ( MZA ) are built according to local requirements or can flexibly transport a wide variety of materials depending on the application.
Hose transport trailer
The hose transport trailer ( STA for short ) is a trailer that usually carries around 30 to 35 B-hoses, each 20 meters in length, which are coupled in bays. The trailer also has hose bridges , distributors , spray pipes , coupling keys and traffic safety equipment. The hose transport trailer is used for the quick and personnel-saving laying of hoses over long distances. This can be done by two to three people while driving slowly.
Portable pump trailer
The portable pump trailer ( TSA for short ) was a trailer that was standardized according to "DIN 14520" until 1992 for the transport of a portable pump 8/8 . The portable fire pump trailer transports almost the same load as a portable fire pump vehicle and is used to initiate an initial fire-fighting attack , to help with pumping water over long distances or during storms. In addition to suction hoses , B hoses and C hoses , the load on this trailer also includes a TS 8/8 portable pump, which is inserted in the rear of the trailer. In addition, devices according to DIN for water extraction, water pumping and water delivery are housed. Tools for small technical assistance are also included. The standard also includes a bucket syringe with a five meter long D-pressure hose and D-spray lance. In Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate, however, such trailers are still subsidized and their loading and construction are even defined by technical guidelines.
Monitor trailer
The (non-standardized) monitor trailer is a trailer with a built-in monitor (water cannon) , which regularly delivers up to 2400 liters of water per minute and throwing distances of up to 70 meters. In contrast to the standardized FwA-SWW, it has fewer and not specified features.
Foam compound tag
Like the monitor trailer, the foam compound trailer is tactically oriented in a similar way to the standardized FwA-SWW. The foam compound trailer, however, has significantly fewer features, no monitor (water cannon) and is built either as a tank truck or as a transport trailer for foam compound containers.
Oil weir trailer
The oil weir trailer (also known as oil damage trailer, ÖSA ) is a trailer that is mainly used to remove oil traces and to lay out oil barriers . He also transports larger and rarely used special equipment such as a jump rescuer . The oil service trailer can be coupled to any fire engine , but is usually deployed in conjunction with an rescue vehicle or a fire fighting vehicle . The trailer carries two step wedges , four collecting drums, two rubble troughs, 24 traffic cones, various bags of oil binding agent coarse and fine, various blocking and warning signs, an oil skimmer , a pipe sealing cushion 10/20, three leak sealing pastes and a Gardena fertilizer spreader . In Bavaria, according to the definition of a technical guideline, there was an oil damage tag (ÖSA) for deployments by the oil rescue country, which was even subsidized by the state. Furthermore, the so-called "Bavarian Oil Service" (for use on the water) still exists today. This module consists of three complementary trailers, which are procured by the country: oil barrier, skimmer and disposal devices.
Light pole trailer
The light pole trailer ( FwA-Lima for short ) is a trailer for illuminating and powering deployment sites. The light pole trailer has a 20 kVA generator and six halogen or metal vapor spotlights , which are attached to a light pole about 10 meters long . The light mast may be aligned during storms up to wind force 11. The trailer can also transport cable drums , wheel chocks , extension cables and a powder extinguisher . In Hesse, 26 emergency power generators have been procured through disaster control.
Trailer ladder
The trailer ladder (short AL ) was a trailer standardized until 2007 according to "DIN 14703", which offers a cheaper variant of the turntable ladder . The trailer is on a one axle - chassis with a trailer coupling (as a pull) and a manually operated drive head with erecting and retractable ladder set. Trailer ladders can weigh up to two tons, depending on their size. In the event of an emergency , it is attached to a fire engine, whereby the maximum permissible speed for the combination is 60 km / h. The trailer ladder type "AL 18" is widespread, other versions are "AL 12", "AL 16" and "AL 22".
Road safety trailer
The road safety trailer ( VSA for short ) is a mostly single-axle fire truck trailer that is used for safety and road safety . The main focus of the traffic safety trailer is the large warning device at the rear, which can be opened up and is clearly visible from a great distance. The trailer is mostly used to secure motorways or large expressways in order to be able to protect the emergency services as best as possible from subsequent traffic accidents. The traffic safety trailer has twelve traffic cones , a foldable transport trolley for the traffic cones, two warning triangles , two metal wheel chocks , an on-board tool kit, a spare parts list and three folding signs . The road safety trailer was standardized according to "DIN 14503" until 2003. In the successor standard, however, only the foam-water thrower tag is standardized.
Powder fire trailer
There are also powder extinguishing trailers, usually with 250 kg of extinguishing powder (called P 250 ) and a propellant gas (nitrogen or carbon dioxide). Such extinguishers are used for gas and dangerous goods fires that must not be extinguished with water .
Carbon dioxide extinguisher
There are also trailers on which CO 2 extinguishers are loaded. While this type of trailer is rare, it is sometimes used in hazardous goods or electrical fires.
Field cooker
Numerous fire brigades and disaster control units have field cookers - some of which are procured by the federal government - that are used to supply emergency services and, in the event of a disaster, civilians. These stoves are sometimes referred to as goulash cannons .
