Bucket syringe (version A)
Operation of a bucket syringe; a second person guides the nozzle

The bucket syringe is a portable small extinguishing device with a hand-operated double-acting piston pump . It is still used occasionally for extinguishing work or to extinguish small and incipient fires . It is still widespread in the Bundeswehr .

It consists of a water tank in which a hand pump is integrated. A D-hose with DK jet pipe (jet pipe without shut-off device) is attached to the side of version A (for fire-fighting vehicles) , and version B (for installation in buildings) has a 1 m garden hose with nozzle. The water jet generated with a bucket syringe can reach seven to ten meters.

According to the German fire brigade regulation 1, a type A bucket sprayer is always operated by two people: One pumps, the other guides the nozzle.

The bucket syringe is also often used by the youth fire brigade in competitions or by children at fire brigade events to fill a container behind a bulkhead with a hole in the shortest possible time or to hit drop flaps.

development

The bucket can be clearly seen on this 17th century syringe

Transportable containers of various sizes with built-in hand pumps have been around for centuries. Also known as "butt syringes", they performed the task of today's handheld fire extinguishers.

In order to increase the extinguishing effect, bucket syringes have been modified to produce foam. Foam compound was added to the extinguishing water filling , and air was added to the solution either at the pump or by means of a foam jet pipe.

Standardized bucket syringes

There have also been standardized bucket syringes since 1941 . The DIN 14405 standard deals with bucket syringes with metal containers of ten to 15 liters.
