Petroliam Nasional Berhad is a Malaysian state-owned oil company founded in 1974 . The name Petronas is an acronym and stands for " Petro liam Nas ional". The group is responsible for the entire extraction, development and organization of all oil reserves in Malaysia and is one of the 500 largest companies in the world . Since it was founded, the company has grown continuously to become an international oil and gas group with representatives in 31 countries and more than 100 subsidiaries. The company's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur have been the Petronas Towers since 1998 .

Petronas is one of the largest oil producers in Sudan . Most of the western oil companies have withdrawn from this country due to the difficult political situation and the conflicts ( Darfur conflict ).

Subsidiaries

The company has more than 100 subsidiaries and around 40 joint ventures, in which Petronas holds a stake of at least 50%. Only three of them are currently listed. Petronas plans to go public with more subsidiaries in the future.

Petronas Dagangan Berhad

Petronas Dagangan Berhad deals with the distribution and sale of petroleum products within Malaysia and the operation of Petronas filling stations. As of January 2008, the company already had 870 petrol stations, and the trend is increasing.

The company also entered into strategic partnerships with fast food chains, banks and the transport industry in order to make the gas stations more attractive. Partners include McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dunkin Donuts, Transnasional Berhad Consortium, Maybank and CIMB Bank.

Petronas Gas Berhad

Petronas Gas Berhad operates in the gas utility industry. As a pipeline transport company, it handles gas transport between Petronas and the various customers. In this capacity, it operates its own pipeline of 2,550 kilometers between Kerteh in Terengganu to Johor Bahru in the south and Kangar in the north on the Malaysia peninsula.

MISC Berhad

MISC Berhad is a maritime logistics company. Among other things, it owns its own ships and shipping companies, including the world's largest fleet of liquefied gas tankers .

KLCC Properties Berhad

The real estate company deals with the development and management of the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) , which includes the Petronas Towers , Menara ExxonMobil and the KLCC Park. The company is also responsible for the Dayabumi Complex near Dataran Merdeka.

Petronas Chemicals

Petronas Chemicals is Petronas' youngest publicly traded company. The IPO took place on November 26, 2010 with an issue volume of USD 4.4 billion, making it one of the largest IPOs in Southeast Asia.

This division of Petronas is the largest petrochemical producer and distributor in Southeast Asia. The product range includes olefins, polymers, fertilizers, methanol and other basic chemicals, as well as intermediate and refined products.

Malaysian Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE)

MMHE has been listed on October 29, 2010. The issue volume was 1 billion Malaysian ringgits.

This subsidiary designs and builds offshore platforms for oil and gas production. It also deals with the repair of tankers and the conversion of tankers into floating storage and transhipment facilities ( Floating Production Storage and Offloading Unit ) .

Sponsoring in motorsport

Petronas has been involved as a sponsor in Formula 1 since 1995 , and from 1997 to 2005 as an engine sponsor of the Swiss Sauber Team . As such, Petronas financed the leasing of the V10 engines supplied by Ferrari . With these units, Sauber achieved four podium places. From 2006 to 2009 the company was the main sponsor of what was then the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Petronas has been the team's main sponsor since the first season of the Mercedes F1 team in 2010 .

The SIC Racing Team has been operating as Petronas Yamaha SRT in MotoGP since 2019 . It employs the young drivers Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo .
