The Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Company Sdn Bhd (KPOC) is a joint venture of the companies operating under Malaysian law

  • Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (40 percent share),
  • ConocoPhillips Sabah Gas Ltd (30 percent stake) and
  • Shell Energy Asia (30 percent share).

The joint venture is based on the "Kebabangan Cluster Product Sharing Contract" of December 31, 2007 and comes from an initiative by ConocoPhilipps. The contract with the state oil production company Petronas covers various activities in three gas fields off the coast of Sabah.

KPOC is active in oil and gas exploration in the offshore fields of Sabah , Malaysia.

Drilling projects

KPOC carries out exploration and production projects in the Kebabangan gas field on behalf of its shareholders . The oil and gas obtained through the use of a drilling platform is pumped through two 135-kilometer pipelines to the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal in Kimanis (Sabah). The terminal went into operation in 2014.

The technical execution of the drilling platform was awarded to SapuraKencana Petroleum Berhad , Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The contract, worth around EUR 50 million, includes planning, construction, project management and installation of the drilling platform.

The Kebabangan gas field is between 100 and 400 meters below sea level. It belongs to a cluster of three independent gas fields. The names for these gas fields in the Kebabangan Cluster Asset are:

  • Kebabangan (KBB),
  • Kamunsu East (KME) and
  • Kamunsu East Upthrown Canyon (KMEUC).

The KBB gas field is the largest of the three fields.

Others

The colors of the company logo represent the main corporate colors of the companies involved: turquoise (Petronas), yellow (Shell) and red (ConocoPhillips). The lettering in the Petronas colors is an indication that Petronas holds the majority share in the company. According to the company, the logo symbolizes the harmony within the shareholders, the drive to control business operations and the positive attitude to be the best.
