Franco Morbidelli
Franco Morbidelli (born December 4, 1994 in Rome ) is an Italian motorcycle racer and world champion in the Moto2 class.
Career
In 2011 Morbidelli made his debut in the FIM Superstock 600 Cup with the Forwards Racing Jr Team on a Yamaha R6 and finished the season 17th overall. In 2012 he switched to the Bike Service Racing Team and finished the season in sixth overall. 2013 he went to the San Carlo Team Italia on Kawasaki ZX-6R and was champion of the FIM Superstock 600 Cup.
Morbidelli also made his debut in the Moto2 class of the Motorcycle World Championship on a Suter from the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 team owned by Fausto Gresini in the 2013 season . In 2014 and 2015 it drove for the Italtrans Racing Team on Kalex . Since 2016 he has been under contract with Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS , where he also competes on Kalex.
At the 2015 Indianapolis Grand Prix , Morbidelli achieved his first podium finish in the world championship with third place behind Álex Rins and Johann Zarco .
In 2017 Morbidelli took his first victory at the Grand Prix of Qatar . At the end of the season he became world champion for the first time in his career , won eight races that season and made it onto the podium twelve times.
For the 2018 season, he switched to the MotoGP class of the motorcycle world championship. His best finish was eighth in the Australian Grand Prix . Morbidelli was awarded 15th place in the overall ranking for best debutant and as Rookie of the Year .
Franco Morbidelli has been racing for Petronas Yamaha SRT alongside Fabio Quartararo since 2019 . With fifth place at the Grand Prix of The Americas , he achieved his best season result on April 14, 2019, which he was able to repeat three times during the season. He finished the season in tenth, but lost the team-internal duel against Quartararo with 192 to 115 points.
The 2020 season started for the Italian with a fifth place in the Spanish Grand Prix .
