Álex Rins (born December 8, 1995 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish motorcycle racer .

Career

At the age of six, Rins began to race on supermotos in the displacement classes up to 50, up to 65, up to 70 and up to 85 cm³. He won his first title in the class up to 70 cm³ at the Catalunya-MiniGP . The change to road racing followed. He won the Catalan Pre125GP championship with 32 points and was third overall in the 125 cc class of the European motorcycle championship . In 2011 Rins won the Spanish motorcycle championship in the 125 cc class on Derbi and was second overall in the European motorcycle championship in this class.

Motorcycle world championship

Moto3 class

Álex Rins made his debut in the motorcycle world championship in 2012 in the Moto3 class for the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team . At the end of the season, he finished fifth overall and was voted Rookie of the Year . In 2013 , Rins was runner-up behind his compatriot Maverick Viñales with six wins and a total of 14 podium finishes . At the end of the 2014 season, he finished third overall with two wins and eight podium finishes.

Moto2 class

For the 2015 season , Álex Rins was promoted to the Moto2 class. He drove for the Paginas Amarillas HP 40 team from Sito Pons alongside his compatriot Luis Salom . With two wins and 10 podium finishes, he was immediately runner-up behind the French Johann Zarco . In 2016 he stayed with the Sito Pons team.

MotoGP class

His debut in the MotoGP class was Rins in the season 2017 in Suzuki - factory team and was 16th in the World Cup. In 2018 he was fifth in the World Cup and was on the podium five times. In April 2019 , Rins won his first race in the premier class at the Grand Prix of The Americas, making it only the second winner after Marc Márquez in the seven-year history of this race. As the season progressed, Rins won the Great Britain Grand Prix with a photo finish against Marquez when he overtook him after the last corner.

The 2020 season got off to a bad start for Rins when he fell in qualifying for pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix and broke his right shoulder. As a result, he could not take part in the race and the timely healing before the next race is also in question.
