Luis Jaime Salom Horrach (born August 7, 1991 in Palma ; † June 3, 2016 in Sant Cugat del Vallès ) was a Spanish motorcycle racer .

Career

Salom made his debut in the motorcycle world championship in 2009 in the 125 cc class for the SAG-Castrol team . He was also used as a substitute driver in the Jack & Jones team that season . In 2010 he initially drove for the Lambretta Reparto Corse team and switched to Stipa-Molenaar Racing GP after two races . In 2011 and 2012 he competed for RW Racing GP . His final season in the Moto3 class was 2013 for the Red Bull KTM Ajo team .

Salom has been racing in the Moto2 class since 2014 . He started at Paginas Amarillas HP 40 and moved to the Stop and Go Racing Team in 2016 .

On June 3, 2016, Salom had a serious accident during the second free practice session on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya . According to the medical report by Dorna chief doctor Angel Charte, which was published the next day, Salom was already in a state of cardiac arrest when the rescue workers arrived. Resuscitation measures were taken along the route and later in the ambulance. A helicopter was ready but was not used due to the severity of the injuries. Salom was admitted to the Hospitale Generale de Catalunya at 4:10 p.m. local time, where he was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m.

At the FIM Awards ceremony at the end of the 2016 season it was announced that Luis Salom's start number 39 will no longer be awarded in the Moto2 World Championship.
