Derbi is a Spanish motorcycle brand from Martorell in Catalonia , it is part of the Piaggio - group belonging motorcycle manufacturer Nacional motor SAU

The company was founded in 1922 by Simeón Rabasa i Singla in Spain as a bicycle workshop. The name is made up of the first letters of “ der ivado de bi cicleta” (German: “ Derived from bicycles ”). After the Second World War, Derbi began serial production of the first moped, the SRS named after the company's founder's initials .

A well-known model of the 1990s was the Derbi Vamos . To date, Derbi primarily produces mopeds , mopeds , scooters and light motorcycles from 50 to 125 cm³. From 2006 to 2008 a large motorcycle, the Scrambler Mulhacén 659 , was also in the product range.

The Derbi factory in Martorelles has been closed since March 22, 2013. The last vehicle that rolled off the line was a Senda DRD 50.

Motorsport

In the motorcycle world championship , Derbi has won twelve drivers’s world championships, nine constructors ’s titles and 106 Grand Prix victories (as of November 7, 2010). The first Grand Prix victory was achieved on June 14, 1968 by the Australian Barry Smith in the 50 cm³ class at the Isle of Man TT . The first world championship in 1969 brought Ángel Nieto in the class up to 50 cm³. In the 2008 season Mike Di Meglio won the driver's title in the class up to 125 cm³ on a Derbi. In 2010 , the Spanish motorcycle manufacturer succeeded in winning both the constructors 'and drivers' titles in the class up to 125 cm³ through Marc Márquez .
