The Derbi Mulhacén 659 is a motorcycle from the Spanish manufacturer Derbi .

The big sister of the Mulhacén 125 is named after the highest mountain on the Iberian Peninsula and was first presented to the public in Barcelona in 2006 . The Scrambler is Derbi's first motorcycle with a displacement of more than 125 cc.

Construction

The Mulhacén 659 shares the 4-valve OHC - cylinder engine with Yamaha XT 660 R . The unit delivers a maximum 34.6  kW (47  hp ) at 6250  min -1 . The maximum torque is 55  Nm at 5500 rpm. The engine was technically adopted unchanged, only the airbox and the ignition map of the injection system were modified. When ready to drive, the motorcycle weighs 174 kg. The maximum speed is given as 168 km / h.

The exhaust gases from the engine are cleaned by an unregulated catalytic converter . Power is transmitted through a five-speed gearbox via a chain drive . The brake system (front disc brake with 320 mm and rear single disc with 245 mm diameter) was obtained from the supplier Brembo . The overall ratio (gears 2.500 / 1.625 / 1.150 / 0.909 / 0.769, primary ratio 2.083, secondary ratio 3.066) is similar to that of the Yamaha MT-03 . The motorcycle is very handy and light, but its maneuverability is limited by the limited steering angle. It has a wheelbase of 1,386 mm and short suspension travel of 120 mm at the front and 110 mm at the rear. The tire dimensions of the Mulhacén 659 (front 110 / 80-18, rear 150 / 70-18) give the vehicle very good maneuverability and good straight-line stability; the coarsely treaded tires only demand a little more pressure when changing lean angles on bumpy surfaces. The golden anodized telescopic fork comes from the supplier Marzocchi , the rear wheel is guided in a two-arm swing arm cast from aluminum . The rear suspension strut , which is linked via a rocker arm and attached to the side, comes from the supplier Sachs and was considered too soft and undamped in most of the tests in the trade magazines.

The seating position on the 830 mm high bench is pleasantly upright, and thanks to the slim waist, it also allows smaller drivers to always have safe contact with the ground. The pillion seat is not suitable for longer tours for two due to the narrow seat cushion and the very high pegs. The Mulhacén 659 comes with a passenger seat cover that can be fitted in a few simple steps. The multifunction display is designed as a digital liquid crystal display and includes u. a. Speedometer and tachometer . The tank capacity, including the reserve, is 12 liters (premium petrol).

costs

The list price for the Mulhacén 659 was 7,700 when it was launched in 2006  , including ancillary costs. Direct competitors for the Mulhacén 659 are u. a. the Yamaha MT-03 , the Aprilia Pegaso Factory - both with the same engine as in the Mulhacén 659 -, the BMW G 650 Xcountry , but also the much more powerful KTM Duke .

Special editions

In addition to the standard version, Derbi also offers the Mulhacén 659 GPRacer with black seat and GPR sports exhaust as well as the red-painted Mulhacén 659 Ángel Nieto special edition with now 17-inch cast wheels instead of the original 18-inch spoke wheels.
