Isofotón

Isofotón is the largest Spanish manufacturer of solar cells and modules and an international company with around 770 employees that is one of the pioneers in the solar industry. The company, based in Madrid, covers the entire value chain in the areas of photovoltaics and solar thermal energy . Isofotón accompanies the entire process, from cell and module production to the installation of turnkey systems by partners.

history

Isofotón was founded in 1981 as a spin-off of a university project by Antonio Luque López, director of the Institute for Solar Energy at the University of Madrid . He is considered a pioneer in the solar industry and dealt with the industrial production of solar cells . In 1986 the first module rolled off the production line and the first system was connected to the network. The company was involved in the research and development of foundations for the solar industry that are still used today. In 2006, Juan Carlos I , the King of Spain, started the Isofotón production in Malaga as one of the most highly automated factories. The company sells its products in more than 60 countries and has offices around the world. In 2010, Isofotón's export rate was over 90 percent. The main sales markets include Italy and Germany. Since June 2010, Isofotón has had a new owner with the Affirma-Toptec consortium.

In early February 2013 a group of suppliers, employees and ex-employees filed for bankruptcy. The company is not only accused of being in arrears with its payments for a long time, but also that assets have been moved to the parent company Affirma and Asian corporate branches and thus have been withdrawn from creditors' access. A few days earlier, the company had already announced the layoff of 380 employees in Malaga.

Technologies and Products

Isofotón is a manufacturer of photovoltaic cells and modules on a monocrystalline basis. HCPV modules have also been part of the product portfolio since 2010. Isofotón has done pioneering research and development in concentrator technology for photovoltaic modules and offers individual solutions for the architectural integration of solar modules.

engagement

Isofotón supports the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals , which were set for 2015 in 2000 and include the goal of ecological sustainability. In 2002, Isofotón signed the United Nations Global Compact , initiated by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 1999 . This pact was concluded between the UN and business enterprises to make globalization more social and ecological. The company also campaigned for the creation of the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), an association that supports the sustainable development of rural areas without access to electricity grids by using renewable energy. Isofotón itself has implemented numerous projects in Africa and South America . Isofotón's environmental management has been audited and certified by EMAS , the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, the European Union's system for environmental management and auditing. Isofotón is a founding member of the PV Cycle. The members of the PV Cycle are committed to sustainability through take-back and recycling programs for modules. In addition, Isofotón holds the Vice-Presidency of the CPV Consortium, which is committed to the spread of concentrator technology.
