KAYANAK is a board game for children aged 6 and over. It is the second game by the game designer Peter-Paul Joopen . The game was released at the 1998 International Game Days in Essen and six months later it was awarded the Special Children 's Game Prize at the Game of the Year and the German Children's Games Prize at the German Games Prize .

Game idea

The Eskimos live from fishing. Fishing in the ice is not easy, as holes must first be hacked into the thick layer of ice.

Furnishing

  • 1 game board ( pack ice ) including A4 sheets of paper for the ice layer
  • 4 pawns
  • 1 magnetic rod
  • 15 big fish
  • 75 small fish
  • 4 wooden tubs
  • 1 white action die
  • 1 blue temperature cube
  • 8 white ice crystals
  • 5 blue drops

Game objective

The aim is to catch the most fish.

Game flow

Depending on the result of the dice, the game figure is drawn, the ice surface is chopped up or fish is caught with a small fishing rod in existing holes. But the Eskimos also have to watch out for the weather, because before you know it, the ice hole that has just been chopped is frozen over again. In the thaw, however, you can no longer step on all the ice floes.
