The Beetle Masked Ball is a cooperative board game for children and families by Peter-Paul Joopen . The game was released by Selecta in 2001 and was named Children's Game of the Year the following year . In 2015 a new edition was published by Pegasus Spiele .

Game idea

The ladybugs go to the masquerade ball. So that every beetle has a really colorful glow, they swap their points. But first you have to like the color of the other beetle. And unfortunately that is not always the case, as small magnets cause some surprises.

Furnishing

  • 1 game board with rotating arrow
  • 8 ladybugs with magnets
  • 56 colorful dot sticks
  • 7 ants
  • 1 set table

Game objective

To swap the colors of the ladybugs so that no beetles have a double color before the ants reach the festival and eat everything.

Game flow

  • The active player turns the arrow.
    • If the arrow points to a petal, the player may place this ladybug opposite another ladybug,
      • If one of the two ladybugs turns away, he doesn't like the color of the other and doesn't want to swap. So the ladybug goes back to its petal in the outer circle and it is the next player's turn.
      • If neither of the two beetles turns away, they both like the other color and they swap. If the ladybug already has five different colors, then it's ready, otherwise it flies on to the next ladybug.
    • If the arrow points between two petals, an ant is making its way towards the feast.
