Looping Louie just before he catches a chicken.

Looping Louie is a children 's skill game produced by Milton Bradley since 1994 . It is made of plastic and is battery operated. The goal is to be the only farmer to survive the attacks by Looping Louie on the chickens. In addition, the game is often used by adults as a drinking game , whereby each time a coin drops, a sip or a glass must be emptied. In 1994, the game won the special children's game award at Game of the Year. A new edition appeared in 2006.

How to play

The game is played by up to four people. Each player has his own farm with initially three chickens , which are expressed by three small plastic discs. The plastic discs are placed on the roof of the farm. If Looping Louie flies his plane into one of the chickens, it rolls down. The game continues until a player has none of his initial three chickens and is eliminated. In front of the farm, each player has a small catapult with which he can use a clever reaction to make the looping Louie fly over the chickens.

There are two levels of difficulty; By adjusting the catapult, the area used to catapult Louie can be reduced or enlarged. This enables a somewhat more balanced competition between children and adults.

competition

MB advertises that the game promotes hand-eye coordination and the ability to react. Although the game was originally made for children, more and more adults are playing it too. In recent years, the game has grown in popularity among young adults as a drinking game .

Extensions

Meanwhile, you can find more and more extensions for the game. This essentially involves optical tuning (including lighting), converting the game material for up to eight players, and controlling the motor in order to achieve different flight speeds.

reception

Looping Louie was awarded the special prize for children by the jury of the game of the year in 1994 and received the “special prize for action game” at the German Games Prize in 1994. In 2006, the game was also voted third in the Swiss Games Award.

The Children's Game of the Year award has been criticized in part and seen as a trend for simple games without a real game designer. The game critic and co-organizer Wieland Herold criticized this at the 1994 Göttingen game designer meeting:

“The best children's game of the year does without the cost factor of the author. The jury, which has done a lot for the authorship with its work, adapts to a time trend with its decision. The assembly instructions are more important than the rules. "

- Wieland Herold, 1994
