Spinderella is a children's game by the game designer Roberto Fraga . The game for two to four players, ages five and up, lasts around 30 minutes per round. It was published by Zoch Verlag in 2015 and in the same year won the Children's Game Critics' Prize of the Year and the German Children's Games Prize .

Theme and equipment

The game is about getting ants to their destination on an ant road without being caught by the spider "Spinderella", who rappels down onto the playing field and is controlled by her brothers "Roberto" and "Klaus".

In addition to the instructions, the contents of the game box consist of:

  • a three-dimensional game board with the ant runway on the lower level and the spider web on the upper level. There are tree trunks made of plastic at the four corners as pillars.
  • 12 ant tokens in four colors (three of each color)
  • 1 "Bark" token
  • 1 green picture cube
  • 1 ant cube
  • 1 spider cube
  • 2 spiders without a thread ("Roberto" and "Klaus")
  • 1 “Spinderella” thread spider with magnetic hangers
  • 6 expedition calls
  • 4 tax increase cards

Style of play

After the three-dimensional playing field has been set up in the game box, each player chooses a color and receives the corresponding ant tokens. The ants are placed on the starting field, the three dice are placed next to the playing field and the spider brothers "Roberto" and "Klaus" are placed on the upper playing field. The "Spinderella" is hung with the magnet below the spider web.

We play in turn, with the other players always throwing all three dice and making their moves based on the results. The picture die is used to decide whether the player may move the spiders, his ants or the bark. The white spider cube determines the range of the spiders and the brown ant cube determines the range of the ants.

If the picture die shows an ant, the player may move one of his ant figures by the number of eyes on the ant die. If the move ends on an ant or on the bark (under which an ant is located), he places his own ant on top of it. If an ant with other ants is to be moved, they must be transported with it.

If the picture die shows a spider, the player moves the spider brothers "Roberto" and "Klaus" on the upper board, and thus also the "Spinderella" with the magnet. The white spider cube shows how many spaces the spiders can be moved; this number can be freely distributed between the two spiders. It is forbidden to simply pull the two spiders back and forth or to get a distance between the two of more than two red dots. If the "Spinderella" is lowered onto an ant or if a train ends below the spider, the ant figure is magnetically attracted and caught. If a player catches an ant, it is put back on the starting field; if it is an opposing figure, the player may also move one of his ants by the number of eyes on the ant cube. Then the two spider brothers "Roberto" and "Klaus" are brought back to their starting positions.

If the picture die shows a leaf, the player must move the bark as well as an ant or the spider according to the respective die roll, whereby he determines the order himself. The bark is picked up and placed on any ant field on which there are one or two ants. These are safe from the spider there, but can no longer move and move with the bark in further moves.

The winner of the game is the player who first brought his own three ants to the target area unharmed.

reception

Spinderella was developed as a children's game by Roberto Fraga . It won the Children's Game of the Year Critics' Prize in 2015 and the German Children's Games Prize in the same year . The jury for Children's Game of the Year describes the game as “an extraordinary three-dimensional game that, with a successful mix of Fortuna and tactics, ensures a lot of tension even with older players.” Brettspiele-magazin.de calls it a “worthy winner and successor to the Last year's winners Geister, Geister, Schatzsuchmeister ”and especially highlights the two-story game plan as a new idea that has been combined with familiar elements from various well-known children's games.
