Thit Jensen

Maria Kirstine Dorothea Jensen , called Thit Jensen (born January 19, 1876 in Farsø , † May 14, 1957 in Bagsværd ), was a Danish writer .

Life

Thit Jensen was born in Farsø in 1876 as the daughter of a veterinarian. Her brother Johannes V. Jensen was also a writer and won the Nobel Prize for Literature. From 1912 to 1918 she was married to the painter Gustav Fenger .

Thit Jensen wrote about erotic and social topics and was involved in the women's movement . Many of her teenage novels depict talented young women marrying under pressure from society and then perishing in an unhappy marriage. In 1924 she founded the Foreningen for Seksuel Oplysning ("Organization for Sexual Awareness"). There she advocated free choice for women about an abortion . After 1925 she turned to the historical novel and wrote stories from her Jutland homeland.

Jensen was awarded the Tagea Brandt Rejselegat , a travel grant , in 1935 .
