The Sauber C32 is the Formula 1 - racing car of Sauber Motorsport for the Formula 1 2013 season . It is the 21st Sauber Formula 1 car. The car was presented on February 2, 2013 in Hinwil . The presentation was broadcast live on the YouTube internet platform .
As with all Sauber vehicles, the name of the car is composed of the C for Christiane, Peter Sauber's wife , followed by a consecutive number.
Technology and development
The C32 is the successor to the C31 . The "nose hump" is largely hidden by the newly introduced vanity panel. The car developed by Matt Morris is powered by a Ferrari V8 engine with a displacement of 2.4 liters, which develops an output of around 550 kW (≈750 hp). The KERS and the gearbox are also from Ferrari. The brakes come from Brembo , the rims from OZ Racing and the tires from the standard supplier Pirelli .
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of the 2013 season, the C32 is equipped with KERS and DRS .
The C32 is a further development of the previous model, but visually differs significantly from this. Particularly noticeable are the very narrow side pods, which ensure a significantly improved air flow to the rear of the vehicle. As a result, major changes had to be made to the positioning of the electronic components and the cooler housed there. The braking system has been completely redesigned. Some changes have also been made to the front suspension, it is hoped that this will increase the stability of the car when braking. There were other changes to the exhaust system and the rear suspension, here the transition between the fairing and the suspension has been optimized in order to allow the exhaust gases to flow more efficiently to the diffuser.
In the free practice sessions during the season, Sauber repeatedly tested a passive DRS system on the C32, which was not used in the race.
Painting and sponsorship
The C32 is painted gray. The sponsor Claro provides red color accents, while NEC and Telmex provide blue . With Telcel , a second communications company owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helú advertises on the vehicle, and stickers from œrlikon can also be found on the C32.
driver
In the 2013 season, Sauber is competing with two new drivers: Nico Hülkenberg drove for Force India in the previous season , while Esteban Gutiérrez finished third in the GP2 series .
2013 season
The start of the season was bad for the Sauber team. There were problems with the tank system on Nico Hülkenberg's vehicle , so that for safety reasons it was not started. Esteban Gutiérrez finished 13th in his first Grand Prix. In the first ten races of the season, the team had only achieved seven points. After the tires for the Hungarian Grand Prix were brought up to the level of the previous season by Pirelli, Sauber stabilized itself and consistently scored points. With fourth place at the Korean Grand Prix, Hülkenberg achieved the best result of the season for the team, which finished seventh in the Constructors' World Championship with 57 points at the end of the season.
