The 600 kg monocoque vehicle was powered by a Petronas 01A 90º V10 engine. Petronas was also the main sponsor and lubricant supplier. The tires were provided by Bridgestone .

Painting and sponsorship

As with all Sauber models between 1995 and 2003, the choice of color for the paintwork was based on the colors of the main sponsors. The majority of the chassis was in the blue of the beverage manufacturer Red Bull , the sides were painted in Petronas cyan. In addition to the two previous main sponsors, the Swiss bank Credit Suisse also came to the fore as a new sponsor; For this reason, the vehicle nose was painted white for the first time.

driver

As the first driver, Sauber signed Nick Heidfeld from Mönchengladbach , who started his second season from the Prost Grand Prix . The second driver was Kimi Räikkönen from Finland , who started his first Formula 1 season.
