Experian , based in Dublin , Ireland, is a global information services provider, providing data and analysis tools to customers in over 90 countries. Experian helps companies weigh credit risks, prevent fraud, conduct targeted marketing and automate important decision-making processes. In addition to Equifax and TransUnion , the company is one of the "Big Three" credit reporting agencies . Under the Experian Marketing Services brand, the company offers in particular solutions for customer relationship management (CRM) as well as for data-driven marketing and cross-channel marketing. Another business area is risk management solutions , which the company sells under the Experian Decision Analytics brand. In Germany, Experian Deutschland GmbH in Düsseldorf is active as a subsidiary of the Experian Group.

The company employs around 17,000 people in 39 countries. For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2015, Experian had total sales of $ 4.8 billion. The Experian Group is listed on the London Stock Exchange (EXPN) and is included in the FTSE 100 Index. In 2014, Experian was named one of the world's most innovative companies by Forbes Magazine .

Other headquarters are in Costa Mesa ( United States ), Nottingham ( United Kingdom ) and São Paulo ( Brazil ). In October 2015, T-Mobile US announced that a hacker break-in at Experian stole the data of 15 million T-Mobile customers in the USA.

Data theft

Experian subsidiary Court Ventures sold the personal information of hundreds of thousands of Americans to Hieu Minh Ngo, a Vietnamese who then resold the information on the Superget.info and Findget.me websites to enable buyers to steal identity. The information that could be purchased anonymously on the website included name, address, social security number, date of birth, place of work, length of employment, state driver's license number, mother's maiden name, bank account number (s), bank code (s), e-mail account ( en) and other user passwords. In 2015, Hieu Minh Ngo was sentenced to 13 years in prison by a US court. Court Ventures sold the data to Hieu Minh Ngo for posing as a private investigator.

Experian's servers were hacked on September 15, 2015. Up to 15 million people who have made use of the company's services are affected. Mostly customers of the American cell phone company T-Mobile were affected.
