The Ashtead Group is a publicly traded group of companies based in the United Kingdom that rents capital goods such as lifting platforms, construction equipment, pumps, generators and safety barriers.

The Ashtead Group operates under the name A-Plant in the UK and as Sunbelt in the US and Canada. The most important market for Ashtead is the United States, where 85% of Group sales were generated in fiscal year 2019. Lifting platforms have the largest share of the fleet of rented goods .

Ashtead was founded in 1947 under the name Ashtead Plant Hire Company Limited and was listed on the London Stock Exchange from 1986 . In 1990 Ashtead took over the US competitor Sunbelt Rentals, based in Charlotte , thereby laying the foundation for the company's activities in the USA. With the acquisition of Rentokil Initial's rental business in the United States, the size of the Sunbelt Rentals division doubled in 2000. With the acquisition of NationsRent in 2006, the Ashtead Group and Sunbelt became the second largest equipment rental company in the USA.
