RSA Insurance Group (prior to being renamed Royal & Sun Alliance on May 20, 2008 ) is a UK insurance company. It is listed on the FTSE 100 and is headquartered in London , UK .

The company emerged from a merger of the Sun Alliance with Royal Insurance in 1996. Sun Alliance, in turn, emerged from a merger of the insurance companies Sun and Alliance. Sun, one of the oldest British insurance companies, dates back to 1710.

RSA has locations in over 100 countries worldwide. It is the second largest general insurance company in the UK. In 1997, it became the first foreign insurance company to be allowed to operate in China. Until 2006 it was also listed on the NYSE . RSA's German headquarters are in Cologne .
